Marshall Slingsby Advanced Composites engineering team grows with two new starters

We are delighted to welcome two new starters to the Marshall Slingsby Advanced Composites team: Senior Engineer Shaun Richardson and Associate Engineer Stephen Whalley.

From day one, Shaun and Stephen will be getting involved in exciting projects across the company’s land, air and sea defence portfolio, ranging all the way from R&D to production and ongoing support after delivery. Both Shaun and Stephen thrive on complexity and challenge, and the skills and expertise each individual is bringing to the table will be invaluable.

Senior Engineer Shaun Richardson

Senior Engineer Shaun Richardson

Shaun joins Marshall with 10 years’ experience in composite engineering, having spent much of his career to date making parts for F1 cars and first class passenger seats. His long-standing interest in engineering runs all the way back to watching Robot Wars at a young age! He remains completely fascinated by the design and manufacture process, to the extent that he is currently completely restoring his own classic mini.

Shaun wanted to move back into a technical role while continuing to develop his understanding of composites and learn more about different manufacturing processes. To that end, his new his Senior Engineer role at Marshall will suit him perfectly since he will be able to work very closely with design and engineering colleagues. Since Shaun is also keen to help develop the next wave of talent, the in-house team of budding engineers will undoubtedly learn a great deal from his experience.

In his free time, Shaun is happy to try his hand at almost anything. You can find him walking his dog, watching Derby County, on a bike ride, trying to play golf or falling off a surfboard into the sea! Being the adventurous type, he enjoys cooking and trying different foods from around the world.

Associate Engineer Stephen Whalley

Associate Engineer Stephen Whalley

Stephen comes with a wealth of knowledge and expertise in aeronautical engineering, specifically in composites since he studied materials engineering at university. He was born and raised in Yorkshire until the age of 18 and is excited to be moving back to the area pursuing a career he is passionate about. Inspired to enter Aerospace engineering from a young age, he has been in the industry for almost 24 years and is looking forward to building on his experience alongside the Marshall team.

The variety that this Associate Engineer role offers is part of what makes working at Marshall Slingsby Advanced Composites so interesting and appealing. Stephen is eager to get stuck in with the team and feels that “Marshall is an ideal career move.” In his new role, Stephen will be collaborating on exciting design projects for new products, support in service tasks and aiding efforts in production.

Outside of work, Stephen enjoys cycling, mountain biking and road biking around the North Yorkshire countryside. Having received his cross-country flying endorsement in 2021, Stephen is also a keen glider pilot and hopes to build on his flying time with the Yorkshire Gliding Club this year. His furthest flight to date is just over 100km!
